For a long time, Mario Kart was a leading fan-favorite game on different platforms. In fact, I was so hooked on the game that I did not think any other kart racing game would shift my focus. A lot of game developers did not dare to enter into the territory because it seemed too challenging to outdo Mario Kart. However, the developers of Beach Buggy Racing rose to the occasion and decided to give Mario Kart a run for its money. The game is well received, but does it stack up to Nintendo’s Mario Kart Deluxe? Here’s a review of Beach Buggy Racing.
Amazing Game Modes
When it comes to features, this iOS and Android app have a lot to offer. For one, the game features a couple of game modes that are quite enticing. These include Championship mode, Quickplay, Split-screen co-op, and Career mode. I have played the career mode for some time and managed to unlock about 7 racers who have different capabilities that they can only use once. Apart from the different game modes, you also get to choose which car you drive from a selection of 7. My favorite one is Lambini. You can upgrade the vehicles to improve acceleration, handling, strength, and speed.
The app has impressive graphics. The breathtaking surroundings complement excellent animation. However, I would advise you to play the game strictly on your hand-held device since the graphics get distorted when the game is docked to a big screen. This is expected because the graphics were intended for small screens.
I am not impressed with this game’s controls. I feel like they are quite imprecise, and there is a lack of action on my part. When playing the Google Android game, the only thing that prevents me from steering off the road is the fact that it’s quite broad. I would have preferred the analog stick kind of controls for such a game. However, I think the type of navigation used for this app suit the genre. In these types of games, the skill of the racers is a non-issue.
Therefore, your goal is not to prove what a good driver you are. The goal is to avoid all the obstacles on your way that might prevent you from winning and make it to the finish line first. It’s possible to do this with the controls provided, but it might take you a while to get the hang of it.
The other thing that I did not like about this game for Android and iOS (runs on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV) is the fact that the shortcuts do not really help. You would think that a shortcut in a racing game would get you closer to a win, but this is not the case here. I have used them a number of times, and I always fall behind when I take the ‘shortest route.’ This shows a sign of poor execution on the developers’ part, and I think it is something they should look into updating.
Beach Buggy Racing is free but contains several in-app purchases. Some of the things you can purchase include gems, coins, super packs, and starter packs, ranging from $0.99 to $19.99. There is also the option of going premium. You’ll have to pay $3.99 for this. One of the perks of doing that is not having to deal with any ads.
All in all, this App Store and Google Play app for kart racing is quite impressive. It has exciting game modes, tons of features, and engaging gameplay. It might not be Mario Kart, but it is a close second. I would recommend it to anyone who loves the racing genre or games with tons of challenges to try out. You will not need to learn a lot in this game, and it will keep you entertained for a long time. I personally never get tired of playing it. Try it out! Get the latest version of this game on the App Store or Google Play Store.
