Something about this title sounds familiar, isn't it? Well, yeah, Pixelmon GO is exactly what you think it will be. Developed and dropped by Smiley Zone Studio, this game is a spoofed mix of Minecraft and, of course, Pokemon Go. So, let’s see more into this game.
Who said pixelated pokemons aren't cool?
Honestly saying, I was confused when first launched the game. Why did developers mix two rather different games? No one knows, but this product seems to be fun.
Pixelmon GO is not a copycat. It’s somewhat inspired by two successful games and offers something new to try. The gameplay includes the same mechanics as Pokemon Go does: you catch pixelmons and participate in battles. Yet, this game is less tied to the landmarks than its forty-second cousin. And by this I mean you can catch up to 50 blocky monsters relaxing on a couch.
So, how to pick a pixelmon? Catching a creature is a mini-game, where you throw a pixelcube (Pokeball adaptation) and tap on the expanding green circle. It is also important to note that you can only catch monsters found in the white-circle area. At this point, the Pixelmon GO game intends to be called an original one. It is also may happen that you’ll catch the same pixelmons several times, and if you want another one, you can just restart the app or drop a lure and wait. Lures are pixelmon bites, so you can put them to attract more creatures and catch them. A cool thing about lures is that they replenish automatically after a particular period of time.
This game, in fact, can be impressive. Nevertheless, it’s not a complete copy; it has its own gameplay and looks cool reminding you of the famous Minecraft.
What I didn’t like about the Pixelmon GO is the number of adverts it shows. No, seriously, there are too much. However, you can get new pixelcubes by watching them, but I’m not saying they’re not irritating.
Being an original mix of Pokemon GO gameplay and Minecraft design, it seems to be developed for making money. Apart from ads, the game is quite glitchy. For example, lures and pixelcubes sometimes do not work when you tap them, so the only way is to restart the app. Another big issue is map loading. There are many users complained about the map doesn’t load and in this case to restart the app wouldn’t be helpful. Although, it can be fixed. If you’re struggling with such problem, open the games settings menu and find the "Clear Cache" option.
Once you try the Pixelmon GO, you’re most likely to face all the issues and bugs it has and delete it immediately. The developers can be praised for an attempt to create something cool, but it seems like their efforts were vain, unfortunately.
